about me.

Joanne Doran
Child, Youth and Family Psychologist
Halifax, Nova Scotia
My focus as a therapist is to connect with you through genuine curiosity and kindness. I believe we already have everything we need to be completely whole. Together, we get to the heart of what brought you into my office. Working collaboratively we identify the often invisible barriers to accessing your inherent strengths, resilience and vulnerability. I have been making heart-felt connections with clients for nineteen years and it is my passion and privilege to do this work.
I work mostly with parents, children, teens, and families. One of my passions is helping parents develop mindfully attuned communication with their children, whether they be toddlers or teens. I work collaboratively with parents offering practical guidance and recommendations to create happier relationships. I work with families of gender dysphoric or transgender youth within a trans-inclusive, safe, caring space.
Children are ideal candidates for early intervention and lasting change is often realized in a short amount of time. I specialize in assessing and treating kids with anxiety, ocd, depression etc.. I have a special interest in working with kids and parents with highly sensitive temperaments.
Teens and young adults often greatly benefit from a warm therapeutic relationship. A non-judgemental space allows full exploration of one's unique wholeness. With more connection to what they think, feel and believe, self-confidence is built and becomes the foundation from which they blossom.
Although I often work with children and youth, one of my passions at this time in my life is connecting with older adults who are exploring their identity. Perhaps there is a loss of meaning in life or a desire to connect to one’s soul. I love helping clients explore who they truly are; the person they were before the conditioning, the wounds, the personal history. Tapping into that core essence of who we are can bring deep satisfaction and joy.
