about me.
Joanne Doran
Child, Youth and Family Psychologist
Halifax, Nova Scotia
I'm a child psychologist and family therapist. I provide therapy for children and youth who are experiencing a number of life challenges, such as anxiety, stress, trauma or divorce. Children are ideal candidates for early intervention and lasting change is often realized in a short amount of time. In my work with teens, I use a holistic, mindful approach, offering them tools and guidance. Through exploring their life experiences, values and unique strengths, teens develop self-awareness, confidence and self-regulation. I work with adoptive children and families to create safe, loving attachments when there has been complex trauma and disrupted attachment relationships.
One of my passions is helping parents develop mindfully attuned communication with their children, whether they be toddlers or teens. I work collaboratively with parents offering practical guidance and recommendations to create happier relationships. I work with families of gender dysphoric or transgender youth within a trans-inclusive, safe, caring space.
My focus in providing therapy is to facilitate the discovery of inherent strengths and resiliency. I value open communication and work collaboratively. I have extensive experience working with children, youth and their caregivers across domains. Guess my motto would be "Know Thyself" for therein lies strength, happiness, truth and maybe even freedom!
